Liverpool icon Gerrard in attendance as Aribo continues amazing record for Southampton
Published: November 12, 2022Joe Aribo holds the distinction of being the only Southampton player to have played all the club's matches in all competitions in the 2022-2023 season.
It was thought that the run would come to an end in Southampton's 3-1 loss to Liverpool in a Premier League match at Anfield on Saturday evening, with new Saints boss Nathan Jones opting to leave the versatile winger on the bench until the closing minutes when he made his fifth and final substitution.
Aribo hopped off the bench in the 82nd minute as a replacement for Romeo Lavia to keep the terrific run going.
The former Rangers man has now appeared in seventeen matches across all competitions this season, logging 1,031 minutes.
Aribo's former coach and Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard, who is currently unemployed following his dismissal by Aston Villa, was among the spectators at Anfield.
Liverpool signed off for the 2022 World Cup win a 3-1 win over the Saints but it wasn't a routine victory as they had to work hard to secure the points.
Roberto Firmino, with an intelligent header, got the scoring going in the sixth minute and a brace from Darwin Nunez eventually did the damage in the end, while Che Adams managed to grab one back for Southampton.
After fifteen games in the Premier League, Southampton are second from bottom in the standings with twelve points after suffering nine defeats.
