'Playing alongside Thiago' - Aina impressed by development of Chelsea center back

Super Eagles star Ola Aina has admitted that he is impressed by the development of Chelsea youngster Trevoh Chalobah over the last few years.

Chalobah since making his debut for Chelsea in August 2021 has become one of the trusted defenders at the Bridge.

In a chat with Alex Goldberg, Aina expressed his delight in seeing his former teammate and close pal make headway at Chelsea.

"I'm super happy for him. I messaged him and I think it was after his eighth start, I was like: 'you're doing really well bro. Playing alongside Thiago and this. And you're not just there, you are putting in good performances.

"Proper buzzing for him. And he was just like: 'yeah just got to keep it going, got to keep my head down'. He always says that to me. It's good to hear because he deserves it, he works hard.

"The things that he does off the pitch as well people don't really see, so I'm always happy for him."

Aina and Chalobah were teammates in Chelsea's youth ranks, but never had the opportunity to play for the senior team together.

The 26-year-old went on two loan spells before departing the London based outfit permanently in the summer of 2019, while Chalobah who went on three loan spells is now an established member of Chelsea's squad.

Chalobah recently signed a new six-year deal that is valid until the summer of 2028, with a club having the option to extend for an additional one year.

The former England youth international has scored four goals and has assisted two in 43 appearances for the Blues.
