Confirmed team news : Super Eagles CB misses West Brom's clash v Rotherham
Published: December 16, 2022Semi Ajayi will not make his competitive comeback from injury when West Brom face his old club Rotherham United in a Championship clash at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
You have to go back to August 30, 2022 to find the last time the Super Eagles central defender last played for the Baggies in an official match.
Ajayi sustained a serious ankle injury against Wigan Athletic which required surgery.
He returned to full training just before the World Cup break and traveled with the Baggies squad for a mid-season training camp in Spain where he featured in a friendly against Elche.
The 29-year-old is back on the sidelines due to a shoulder injury he suffered before the trip to Sunderland.
Providing a squad update, Baggies manager Carlos Corberán told the club's official website : " We’re in a better shape because the only player we are going to be missing this weekend is Semi Ajayi.
"Against Sunderland we had a few more injuries, but this week it’s just Ajayi who is out.
"Unfortunately he just couldn’t recover in time and needs a little bit longer to get back."
Ajayi has not received a call-up in the last fourteen matches played by West Brom in the second tier and was also left out of the Nigeria squad for their friendlies with Algeria and Portugal.
