Talented striker on the radar of NFF reacts after opening Cardiff City account on full debut
Published: December 18, 2022It has taken Kion Etete twelve games in all competitions to open his goalscoring account for Championship club Cardiff City.
The Derby-born center forward arrived at the Bluebirds from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
In what was his full debut after eleven games off the bench, Etete found the net after lobbing the goalkeeper in the 36th minute - his first competitive goal for Cardiff City.
Etete, who has a Nigerian father, is on the radar of the Nigeria Football Federation with a view to handing him an invitation to the Olympic Eagles.
Speaking after the game at the Cardiff City Stadium, the 21-year-old was delighted to get on the score sheet but felt that Cardiff City only earned a point from the game because they did not put away their chances.
"I think we had enough chances in the game to win it and put it to bed in the first half especially. It’s something that we need to work on in the second half of the season," Etete was quoted as saying by Cardiff City's official webpage.
"I had a few cameos earlier this season, kind of just finding my feet and the belief from the Gaffer has really pushed my confidence up from where I was before.
"Callum [Robinson]'s assist today was exceptional. That’s what he does. We do a lot in training of me feeding him, and him feeding me so it was bound to happen. I was happy to get that goal today."
Etete was in action for 212 minutes spread across twelve games in all competitions before netting his first goal in Cardiff City's colors.
A striker with physical attributes, Etete has now scored in the Championship, League One and League Two.
