Crystal Palace legend Clinton Morrison backs Nigeria target to get into England squad
Published: December 26, 2022Crystal Palace legend Clinton Morrison reckons that Eberechi Eze can force his way into the England squad ahead of the start of the 2024 European Championship qualifiers.
Eze is known to be a player of interest to Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate and the Palace winger was reportedly included on England's provisional roster for the 2022 World Cup, but was not in the traveling squad to Qatar.
The creative midfielder was in contention to be named in the England squad for the Euro 2020 tournament which was held a year later due to the global lockdown occasioned by the Coronavirus.
Unfortunately, he copped an injury at his club prior to the official release of the team and was not included by Southgate.
Southgate scouted Eze at close quaters at least two times this year as he was in attendance for Everton v Crystal Palace at Goodison Park in May, before watching him against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium in Octobe 2022.
The Nigeria Football Federation made the first move to cap Eze, inviting him to a Super Eagles training camp in London ahead of a friendly with Burkina Faso which was later canceled.
Eze's status has changed as he is now provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth after playing competitively for the Young Lions at U21 level.
Speaking briefly on Premier League Productions' Fanzone, Morrison said : "Eze is got a chance of getting into that England squad. Hopefully from now till the end of the season he can deliver."
Eze has been one of the standout players for Crystal Palace this season with a goal involvement of five (2 goals, 3 assists) in fourteen matches in the Premier League.
