Super Eagles-eligible midfielder makes his FA Cup debut as Chelsea are beaten by Man City
Published: January 08, 2023Nigeria-eligible midfielder, Carney Chukwuemeka, on Sunday made his first appearance in the English FA Cup in Chelsea's 4-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Chukwuemeka was also in action against City three days ago in the Premier League which was his fifth game of the season.
City took the lead in the 23rd minute when Riyad Mahrez curled in a sublime free kick past Kepa Arrizabalaga in Chelsea goal.
Seven minutes after Mahrez's goal, Argentina forward, Julian Alvarez, who was part of the 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph in Qatar converted from the penalty spot although Kepa was close to keeping it away.
Phil Foden finished a great team goal from close range in the 38th minute.
Chukwuemeka was introduced in the 73rd minute by embattled manager Graham Potter in place of England international, Mason Mount.
Mahrez grabbed the Citizens' fourth goal from another penalty five minutes before full time.
Chukwuemeka has yet to make his full debut for Chelsea since his £20m move from Aston Villa last August, with his six appearances to date from the bench.
The Blues are next in action when they face Fulham in the Premier League on Thursday, January 12.
