Rangers quoted N2b fee to sign Flying Eagles invitee who's on radar of Man City, Chelsea, PSV
Published: January 19, 2023
Scottish Premiership giants Glasgow Rangers could be priced out of a deal to sign Flying Eagles invitee Thompson Ishaka in the January transfer window.
The Riverlane Football Academy Enugu product was the star attraction at Rangers B pre-season preparations ahead of the 2022-2023 campaign with a string of brilliant performances and finished as their top scorer with five goals.
After he attained the age of majority, the Light Blues followed up their interest in the 18-year-old by making a formal offer for the talented striker.
Rangers' initial offer of one million pounds including £150,000 as initial payment did not meet the valuation of Ishaka, with the player's camp demanding a fee of three million pounds (approximately N2 billion in Nigerian currency) for the deal to go through.
It is believed that the Nigeria underage international is being undervalued by Rangers considering that they paid a six-figure fee to secure the signature of an U16 player Lancelot Pollard from Aberdeen.
There are three other European giants in the race for the signature of Ishaka, with two based in the United Kingdom and one in the Netherlands.
Chelsea and Manchester City are also interested and could invite him for trials with a view to a swoop in the coming months, while PSV Eindhoven want him as soon as possible.
Ishaka's stock could rise further if he is named in the Nigeria squad for the upcoming Africa U20 Cup of Nations and goes on to represent the Flying Eagles at the World Cup.
