Transfer guru confirms Chelsea in the market for a traditional CF amid links with Osimhen
Published: February 08, 2023
Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that English Premier League giants Chelsea are in the market for a traditional center forward ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
Chelsea have reportedly targeted Nigeria international Victor Osimhen as they seek a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is not in the plans of manager Graham Potter, given that the Gabonese has been left out of the Champions League roster and has struggled for game time of late.
Osimhen has been the most decisive player at Napoli this season, scoring 17 goals in 21 all-competition appearances.
And it is no coincidence that the rich Premier League clubs have set their sights on him and are prepared to spend a colossal sum of money to land his signature, with Napoli valuing him in the region of 120 million euros.
Romano revealed that RB Leipzig sensation Christopher Nkunku is set to join Chelsea in the summer but has envisaged that the versatile France international will not be deployed in a traditional number 9 role.
Writing in his exclusive CaughtOffside column the Daily Briefing, Romano said : "I think it’s not surprising that Chelsea will explore market for new striker, Aubameyang will leave and they only have Broja.
“Nkunku is not a number 9, he’s probably going to play behind the striker. But it’s not too early to know for sure what decisions Chelsea will make on who’s going to be the right candidate."
Napoli could be forced to end their association with Osimhen in the summer if the number 9 does not extend his contract beyond the end of the 2024-2025 season.
