Update on the future of Ligue 1 top marksman Balogun at Arsenal
Published: February 08, 2023
Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun was never considered by his parent club, Arsenal, for a return to the Premier League as he continues to impress in his loan stint in France according to Caughtoffside.
Italian transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano revealed that German Bundesliga side, Borussia Monchengladbach and an unnamed Italian team showed interest in him as well as two Premier League clubs in England but France was considered as the best destination for his football education.
Romano has provided an update on the future of Balogun at the Emirates Stadium, saying that a decision on whether to keep, loan, or sell the 21-year-old will be made in May/June, after the end of the current campaign, and not now.
The England U21 international is currently on loan at French Ligue 1 side, Reims and is the leading scorer with 14 goals, beating off competition from PSG's Kylian Mbappe and Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette, who are both on thirteen goals.
The Nigeria-eligible striker, who was previously sent on a loan to Championship side Middlesbrough where he scored only three goals, has reportedly started attracting interest from clubs around Europe.
The player himself did admit that he would love to be a part of the team moving forward but there has been mooted reports that he could be sold by Arsenal to generate funds.
The duo of Gabriel Jesus, who is recuperating from injury, and Eddie Nketiah could possibly be ahead of Balogun in the pecking order of strikers albeit manager Mikel Arteta would be keen to see him in action in pre-season.
