Madueke's transfer has same impact on Chelsea as Bassey's transfer has on Ajax
Published: February 08, 2023The transfer of Chukwunonso Madueke has the same impact on Chelsea as Calvin Bassey's transfer has on Ajax Amsterdam, according to Dutch football magazine Voetbal International, via PSV Fans website.
Madueke ended his association with PSV Eindhoven after putting pen to paper on a seven-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea in the January transfer window, with a club option for the 2030-2031 season.
PSV Eindhoven decided to terminate the contract of the England U21 international of Nigerian descent before its expiration in exchange for 35 million euros.
The amortization charge on the cost of signing Madueke is approximately 4.6 million euros per year, provided he does sign an extension before the end of his seven-and-a-half-year deal.
Nigeria's most expensive defender in history, Bassey joined Ajax Amsterdam for an an initial fee of 23 million euros and the total transfer fee could rise to 26.5 million euros if performance-related variables are included.
Although Bassey's transfer is less than Madueke's, the two players have the same amortization charge for accounting purposes.
The former Glasgow Rangers fullback inked a five-year contract until the end of the 2026-2027 season, meaning 4.6 million euros will be written off from Ajax's books each year.
