Official : American-Nigerian CB, who played for seven different MLS clubs, announces retirement

American-Nigerian central defender Jalil Anibaba has announced his retirement from professional football, the official website of Major League Soccer confirmed on Monday.
The California native is a veteran of twelve seasons with seven different MLS clubs namely Chicago Fire, Seattle Sounders, Sporting Kansas City, Houston Dynamo, New England Revolution, Nashville SC and Columbus Crew,
Overall, the 34-year-old appeared in 245 matches in the regular season, scoring seven goals while providing fourteen assists.
Anibaba was the ninth overall pick of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft and played in 29 MLS matches in his rookie season with the Chicago Fire.
In the 2014 season, he was teammates with former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins at Seattle Sounders, with whom he won both the Supporters' Shield and US Open Cup title that year.
Anibaba has immediately joined Nashville SC, where he spent two years, as the team’s official club ambassador - the first club ambassador in Nashville SC history.
As part of his responsibilities, Anibaba will play an influential role in Nashville's community efforts, as well as their social and digital channels and radio broadcasts.
