Former Netherlands international urges Chelsea to sign Super Eagles star despite price tag
Published: February 18, 2023Former Netherlands international Mario Melchiot has urged his former club Chelsea to sign Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window despite the huge price tag placed on the striker's head by Napoli.
Chelsea are looking at strengthening their attacking options and have targeted a move for the Nigeria international, who is also interesting Manchester United.
The Stamford Bridge outfit have Kai Havertz in their ranks and Christopher Nkunku is set to join when he transfer window reopens for business but those are not traditional center forwards.
Italian Serie A table toppers Napoli are out to squeeze every cent out of the clubs for their talismanic player and have valued him at more than 100 million euros.
Osimhen has been in the best form of his career since turning professional and his strike against Sassuolo on Friday night took his tally for the season to 19 goals from 23 appearances in all competitions.
Melchiot, who appeared in 164 games for Chelsea during his playing days, believes Osimhen would be a good addition to the Blues squad.
"Osimhen, he could be expensive like crazy, but we have to go after someone that can deliver the goals, because if we don’t, we have a great team with great names, but nobody produces the goals," Melchiot said to ESPN, via The Chelsea Chronicle.
Former Lille goal poacher Osimhen will enter the last two years of his contract with Napoli in the summer.
