'Brought energy' - Crystal Palace manager praises goalscorer Eze for his impact off the bench
Published: February 18, 2023
Speaking post-match, Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira heaped praise on Eberechi Eze after the attacking midfielder came off the bench to score the opening goal as the Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday evening.
Crystal Palace were on the brink of ending Brentford's unbeaten run in the Premier League but Vitaly Janelt headed the ball home in the sixth minute of stoppage time to salvage a point for The Bees.
After a goalless first half, Vieira turned to Eze, bringing him on the 63rd minute to add more bite to the attack and it took him less than seven minutes to deliver.
In the 69th minute, the Crystal Palace number 10 powered in a close-range header after an excellent delivery from Michael Olise.
Vieira highlighted that the substitutes, including Eze, added a new complexion to the game.
"The players who came on brought energy. We saw Ebs [Eze] come on and bring quality coming forwards," Vieira said to Palace's official website.
"Of course, when we are in this situation, when we are leading, it is important we can make the right decision.”
Eze, 24, has been involved in seven goals (4 goals, 3 assists) in 23 appearances in the Premier League this term.
