'He's not tied to English national team yet' - DBU's Head of Talent on Arsenal's Nigeria-eligible striker Obi 

Danish Football Union's Head of Talent, Kenneth Heiner-Møller has explained why Chidozie Obi was invited to two different national teams in February. 

The Arsenal schoolboy was initially selected for Denmark's U16 national team on February 7 but there are indications that he does not want to represent Denmark again after accepting a call-up to represent the Young Lions at the ongoing UEFA Development Tournament in Cyprus. 

The Danish-Nigerian starlet was selected for England's U16 national team on February 18.

Obi has the privilege of being able to represent the Golden Eaglets through his Nigerian father, Prince Obi. 

The 15-year-old qualifies to play for Denmark as he was born and raised in Glostrup and has a Danish mother.

"It is related that we selected our squad before England did, and subsequently the English Football Association approached us in relation to Obi, Heiner-Møller, told TV 2 SPORT last week,.

"We have known that England have been aware of Chido – as he has been at Arsenal for a few years – so we knew very well that he had a feeling over there."

Heiner-Møller stressed that Obi is not cap-tied to the English Football Association, so it's not impossible he represents Denmark in the future. 

"It is not certain that Obi will play for England from now on forever. He is not tied to the English national team yet, but we as an association cannot dictate who a player should represent either.

"I am absolutely certain that we would not have gotten very much out of it if we had said "you can't do that." We must support the young people about their choices and doubts."

Obi provided an assist as England thrashed Scotland 3-0 in their second game of the UEFA Development Tournament on Thursday.
