Flying Eagles-eligible duo beaten to Arsenal Goal of the Month by Zinchenko
Published: March 16, 2023
Flying Eagles-eligible duo Joel Ideho and Ethan Nwaneri have missed out on Arsenal's Goal of the Month award for February 2023.
The Gunners, via their official website, confirmed on Thursday that Oleksandr Zinchenko won the monthly accolade for his super strike in a 4-2 victory over Aston Villa.
It was the Ukraine international defender's first goal in Arsenal colours since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium from reigning Premier League champions Manchester City last July.
Ideho was shortlisted for his goal against West Ham United's development squad in a Premier League 2 game on February 17, and Nwaneri for his strike against Cambridge United in the quarterfinals of the FA Youth Cup on February 23.
Against the Hammers, Ideho gave Arsenal the lead in the 63rd minute when he blasted the ball home from just outside the box.
In a thrilling FA Youth Cup clash at the Emirates Stadium, Nwaneri broke the deadlock inside ten minutes with a stunning strike from the edge of the box.
Unfortunately, the two talented teenagers of Nigerian descent didn't finish in the top three, with Bukayo Saka in second place with 38 percent of the vote, two less than Zinchenko, while Stina Blackstenius completed the podium places.
