After equaling Yakubu's record, Akpom could set new Middlesbrough record on Good Friday
Published: March 22, 2023
Championship leading marksman Chuba Akpom has been sensational for Middlesbrough this season.
He has scored 25 goals for Boro and is leading the charge for Middlesbrough's return to the Premier League.
The former Arsenal forward has been named the Championship Player of the Month three times this season and will no doubt be in contention for the English second-tier Player of the Season.
Having scored in the 4-0 rout of Preston North End last weekend, he joined Hamilton Ricard and Yakubu Aiyegbeni as the only players to have scored in six consecutive games for Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium, Boro's home ground.
He had scored previously against Blackpool (2), Queens Park Rangers (2), Reading (2), Stoke and Watford.
Yakubu netted in six consecutive matches against Portsmouth, Manchester United, Dnipro, Fulham, West Brom and Tottenham (2) during the 2005-2006 season.
However, Boro's no.29 has the chance to write his name on a new page in Middlesbrough's history as the first player to score in seven consecutive home games when the third-placed team host Burnley on Good Friday, April 7th.
