Iwobi reacts to reports linking Osimhen with Manchester United and Chelsea
Published: March 28, 2023
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has confirmed that his international teammate, Victor Osimhen, has asked him about the Premier League.
Osimhen has not hidden his intentions to play in the Premier League and has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea as both teams seek to bolster their attack ahead of next season.
Manchester United need a striker because of the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo in the January transfer window and the unreliability of Anthony Martial and on-loan Wout Weghorst.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have struggled for goals all season. The Blues have scored 29 goals in the Premier League this season, the lowest among the top 10 teams in the Premier League table presently.
The Napoli forward has netted 25 goals in all competitions this season and he is leading the charge for the Serie A table-toppers as they seek to end their 33-year wait for a league title.
Asked to share his views on reports linking Osimhen with Manchester United and Chelsea, Iwobi told The Beautiful Game Podcast : "He's someone I really respect by the way because when he first got called up to the Nigeria national team no one really took him in.
"He works hard, chases the ball even if it's going off the pitch. Two AFCONs ago he got injured but people told him to get up that he's always on the floor. He will still work hard, he won't complain.
"For him to get to where he's now, Napoli's main man everyone has his eyes on, we've seen it from time. There's so much more to come from him, he's still young."
On which of the clubs Osimhen is likely heading to, the Everton star responded : "I don't know. It would be nice to know".
Iwobi went on to reveal that Osimhen has gotten in touch with him to ask about the English Premier League.
"He has asked. All of them that are playing in different leagues ask. They always want to know what it's like.
"Obviously EPL is the most so I am sure he probably has the ambition to play in the Premier League.
"So this next trip he would probably ask me. He's doing well."
Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti will be hoping that Osimhen can put his future aside and focus on wrapping up the Serie A title and a possible Champions League triumph with the Blues.
