Victor Boniface emerges as transfer target for RB Leipzig but not viewed as Nkunku's successor
Published: April 25, 2023
RB Leipzig are reportedly keeping tabs on Royale Union Saint-Gilloise forward Victor Boniface with a view to a summer transfer.
Boniface has made a splash in his first season in Belgium with a goal involvement of 25 (15 goals, 10 assists) in 45 all-competition appearances for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
The 22-year-old also put himself in the shop window after some outstanding performances in this season's Europa League with his goals firing RUSG to the quarterfinals of the competition before they were knocked out by Bayer Leverkusen last week.
According to Sky Deutschland journalist Philipp Hinze, Boniface has been monitored several times by RB Leipzig but he is not viewed as a potential replacement for Christopher Nkunku who will complete his move to Chelsea once the season ends.
Per the report, RB Leipzig have their eyes on Boniface with a view to him strengthening the attack in the event of a possible departure of either Yussuf Poulsen or André Silva.
The Nigerian is not the only center forward on the radar of RB Leipzig as other options are being considered.
Boniface joined Union SG from Bodø/Glimt in August 2022 for a fee of two million euros but his stock has risen and at least a fee of ten million euros would be needed to prise him away from the Jupiler Pro League side in the summer.
Teams in France, Germany and Spain are also tracking the attacker ahead of the summer transfer window.
