Athletic Bilbao on brink of deal for Liverpool winger eligible for Flying Eagles
Published: May 27, 2023
Athletic Bilbao are on the brink of a deal for Spanish-born Liverpool winger Elijah Gift, who is eligible to represent the Flying Eagles at international level.
Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the deal is all but done and dusted subject to Gift passing a routine medical at Bilbao.
Athletic Bilbao and Liverpool have already reached a club-to-club agreement for the transfer of the Spanish-Nigerian youngster, with a fee in the region of one million euros being mooted.
Gift would have been eligible to sign his first professional contract with Liverpool in the summer had he remained at Anfield.
The talented winger joined the Liverpool academy as an U12 player from Huddersfield Town, rising through the ranks before making his debut for the U18s against Stoke City in October 2022.
He scored his first goal for the Reds in the 2-2 draw with Everton in January and he also assisted a goal in that encounter.
In the recently concluded academy season, the Corella native played two games in the FA Youth Cup and made his debut in the UEFA Youth League where he featured for eight minutes in the round of 16 tie against FC Porto.
The young forward directly participated in seven goals (4 goals, 3 assists) from 21 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool youth teams.
