Most opening goals in Serie A this season: Napoli striker Osimhen top of the leaderboard
Published: May 28, 2023
Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has scored the most opening goals in this season's Italian Serie A.
The Nigeria international is one of the main reasons Napoli won the Serie A title for the first time in thirty three years, with his brace against Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara on Sunday afternoon taking his tally for the season to 25.
According to the statisticians at OPTA, Osimhen has netted nine opening goals in the Serie A in 2022-2023, more than any other player in the Italian top-flight.
The 24-year-old scored the opening goals in matches against Roma (2), Sassuolo, Udinese, Sampdoria, Juventus, Torino, Fiorentina and Bologna.
His amazing form has seen him score against fifteen different teams in the top-flight, namely Hellas Verona, Monza, Bologna, AS Roma, Sassuolo, Atalanta, Udinese, Sampdoria, Juventus, Salernitana, Spezia, Cremonese, Empoli, Torino and Fiorentina.
Only Lecce, Lazio and Inter Milan prevented Osimhen from getting on the score sheet, and he was not available for selection in the two games with AC Milan due to muscle injuries.
Osimhen's impressive displays have attracted attention from powerful clubs in Europe with Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and PSG all linked with a move for the Napoli number 9 in the upcoming transfer window.
