Flying Eagles-eligible defender to leave Arsenal after more than a decade of service

Flying Eagles-eligible central defender Zach Awe is set to leave Arsenal this summer upon the expiry of his contract.

The Hale End Academy product has played nonstop at the Gunners for more than a decade, having joined the club at U8 level, with the Gunners beating London rivals Crystal Palace to his signature.

According to Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, Awe will be leaving Arsenal in search of first-team football having failed to make his debut for the Gunners.

He received his only call-up to the first team in a Premier League meeting against Wolverhampton Wanderers in February 2022 but was not utilized off the bench by manager Mikel Arteta.

Awe unlike his colleagues has never been loaned out by the club in search of more experience and game time at a higher level.

Initially signed as a right fullback, the physical player was later shifted across into central defence.

He made his competitive debut for Arsenal U18s in August 2019 whilst still a schoolboy and his first appearance for the development squad came against Blackburn Rovers in the first year of his scholarship.

Awe featured prominently for Arsenal's development side in the recently concluded season making 23 appearances in the Premier League 2 and registering 4 appearances in the Papa Johns trophy.

He is said to be attracting interest from the EFL Championship.
