'There is contact with Burnley' - Agent confirms Aiwu is on the radar of PL new boys
Published: June 20, 2023
Marcello Brillmann, who handles the affairs of Austrian-Nigerian defender Emanuel Aiwu, has confirmed that Premier League new boys Burnley are among the teams exploring ways to sign his client in the summer transfer window.
The former Austria youth teamer still has three years left on his contract with Cremonese but his future at the Grigiorossi is uncertain following the club's relegation to the Serie B.
A relegation clause was included in the deal taking him to Cremonese last summer, so a departure could be on the cards for the 22-year-old as he does not want to play in the Serie B.
Burnley posted scouts to monitor the central defender during Cremonese's 3-1 loss to Atalanta back in April.
Former Rapid Vienna star Aiwu appeared in twenty seven matches in all competitions, twenty of which he started, in his debut season in Italy.
Brillmann has suggested that clubs in the big five European leagues plus Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg are monitoring the situation of Aiwu, whose ambition is to play in the English top-flight.
Reacting to speculation linking Aiwu with Burnley, Brillmann told Kicker: "That's right. There is contact with Burnley and there has already been a meeting. But I can't and don't want to say more about this."
Austrian-born Aiwu spent the formative years of his career with Admira Wacker, rising through the ranks before making his senior debut against Austria Vienna in May 2018.
