Despite a new deal on the table for Tudor Mendel-Idowu, the future of the England underage international of Nigerian descent at Chelsea remains unresolved, according to reports.
The exciting winger was among the players retained for the forthcoming season, with the Blues offering him a fresh contract.
Mendel-Idowu, who ended the second year of his scholarship at Chelsea six days ago, is now technically a free agent after the expiry of his contract.
According to Evening Standard's Nizaar Kinsella, the highly-rated 18-year-old is trying to balance his Eton College education, having been labeled an academic genius, and a unique deal could be struck that would allow him play football alongside his university education.
Mendel-Idowu participated in the British reality competition, Child Genius of the Year 2014, finishing in second place, and he's regarded as one of the most academically gifted students in the country.
And he's brilliant on the pitch too, having notched seventeen goal involvements in 35 appearances for Chelsea in the U18 Premier League, and also scored in the FA Youth Cup and U18 Premier League Cup last season.
Chelsea recently confirmed the exits of Nigeria-eligible youngsters Bryan Fiabema, 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Prince Adegoke and fullback Derrick Abu, who completed his move to Southampton on Wednesday.
