Manchester United have started preparations for the 2023-2024 season, with the first team players reporting for pre-season training at Carrington on Thursday.
Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag promoted two teenagers of Nigerian descent to first team training in the shape of Shola Shoretire and Maximillian Oyedele.
Shoretire and Oyedele are back at base after loan spells at Bolton Wanderers and Altrincham respectively in the second half of last season.
Manchester-born Oyedele was named in Poland's provisional squad for the ongoing European U19 Championship but Manchester United blocked him from representing the White Eagles in the competition, arguing that the first team was preparing for the new season.
The Premier League giants have kept to their word by inviting the central midfielder to train with the first team, albeit it was done to make up the numbers as several players who were involved in international duty with their respective nations have been granted extra time off to recuperate.
Shoretire has been given another chance to stake a claim for a first team place ahead of next season.
The attacking midfielder cum striker has yet to play a single game for the first team since the appointment of Ten Hag as coach though he received three call-ups last season without being utilized off the bench by the Dutchman.
Manchester United have lined up friendlies against Leeds United, Lyon, Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Lens and Athletic Club ahead of their season opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14.
