English-Hungarian-Nigerian midfielder signs new contract at Manchester City
Published: July 07, 2023
Michael Okeke has taken to social media to announce that he has signed his first professional contract at English Premier League champions Manchester City.
Okeke has been rewarded with his first professional deal seven years after joining the Manchester City academy from Bolton Wanderers.
In what was his first season as a scholar, the box-to-box midfielder helped Manchester City win the U18 Premier League North as well as the national title, coming off the bench in the showpiece against a strong West Ham United team.
The 2005-born player logged eighteen appearances in the U18 Premier League in the regular season, played three games in the FA Youth Cup and was called up for a UEFA Youth League clash against Sevilla but was a non-playing substitute.
Last season, he was involved in three games in the U18 Premier League Cup, two of which he started.
Born in England to a Hungarian mother and Nigerian father, Okeke has committed his international future to the Hungarians and made his debut for their U18 side in a friendly against Austria in October 2022.
Okeke will be aiming to make his debuts in the UEFAA Youth League and Premier League 2 in the forthcoming season.
"Proud day for me and my family signing my first professional contract at @mancity," Okeke wrote on Instagram on Friday, July 7.
"All glory be to God".
