U21 Euro winner Madueke says he will make sure Brighton target comes back to Chelsea
Published: July 09, 2023
Super Eagles-eligible winger Noni Madueke has assured Chelsea fans that he will make sure that in-demand central defender Levi Colwill will return to Stamford Bridge next season.
Madueke and Colwill helped the Young Lions win the 2023 European U21 Championship on Saturday, with the defender going the distance in the showpiece and the former PSV Eindhoven star entering the game as a substitute in the 66th minute.
Celebrating England's 1-0 victory over Spain, Colwill went live on Instagram after the game and gave Madueke some time on screen.
Colwill's future at the Blues is uncertain with several clubs interested in his services including Brighton & Hove, who saw a bid rejected by their London rivals.
Though the two players are teammates at the England U21 setup, they've never played together at Chelsea as the defender was loaned out to the Seagulls for the entirety of last season while the winger only joined Chelsea in January from Dutch club PSV.
"We are both coming back (to Chelsea). He is as well. Listen, I will make sure he comes back." Madueke said.
Brighton & Hove's Plan B option if they cannot sign Colwill is to make a move for Ajax Amsterdam's left-footed Nigerian central defender Calvin Bassey.
The Seagulls attempted to sign the Leicester City academy product last summer but were unsuccessful.
