Iwobi, Okoronkwo named in Everton's travelling squad to Switzerland
Published: July 10, 2023
Everton boss Sean Dyche has included two players of Nigerian descent in his travelling squad to Switzerland for a pre-season training camp.
The Toffees departed Liverpool for Switzerland on Monday, July 10, with Alex Iwobi and Francis Okoronkwo part of the group.
Everton will spend five days in the Alps, culminating in a friendly against Swiss club Stade Nyonnais in Nyon on Friday, July 14, with the match holding at the Centre Sportif De Colovray complex on the Swiss-French border.
Iwobi has been named on the training camp roster about three weeks after helping the Super Eagles qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Signed as a player for the future, former Sunderland youth teamer Okoronkwo has yet to make his senior debut since his arrival at Goodison Park in 2021, and will be aiming to catch the eye of Sean Dyche during the training camp in Switzerland.
The 18-year-old showed his goalscoring qualities in the 2022-2023 season when he netted thirteen goals in all competitions, consisting of four in the Premier League 2, three in the Premier League Cup, two each in the U18 Premier League and Premier League International Cup and one each in the FA Youth Cup and Papa Johns Trophy.
As part of their preparations for the new season, Everton will also take on Wigan Athletic, Bolton Wanderers, Stoke City and Sporting Lisbon in friendly matches.
