Pundit claims Tottenham are leading the race to sign Super Eagles-eligible defender
Published: July 11, 2023
Football pundit Dean Jones has sensationally claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Super Eagles-eligible central defender Tosin Adarabioyo.
The Fulham star is one of the centre-backs being courted by Tottenham as they seek to bolster their defence this summer.
The north London club conceded 63 goals in the Premier League last summer, the most among teams that finished in the top half of the table and they are keen to rectify their defensive woes ahead of the new season.
Alongside Adarabioyo, Wolfsburg defender Micky van de Ven and Burkina Faso international Edmond Tapsoba are also being considered by Tottenham Hotspur.
Jones while asserting that Tottenham are leading the race to sign the center back also admitted that there is nothing concrete in negotiations between Fulham and Tottenham at the moment.
"Tosin continues to be a player who is unlikely to be at Fulham at the end of this transfer window," Jones said to the Fulhamish Podcast, via The Boot Room.
"Tottenham are leading the way you could say even though the contacts haven't been exceptionally strong to this point.
"Tosin is at the lower end of their targeting around that. But he is in there as an option and they still have players like Lenglet they are considering.
"They do have an interest in Tosin, which is stronger than I initially expected when the story came out, but the problem is that it hasn't gone that far and from what I'm gauging, they're trying to extend the interest in Tosin to see which other clubs have an opening for him if he were to leave."
Tosin has entered the final year of his contract at Fulham and he has made it clear he wants to leave Craven Cottage this summer.
The Manchester City academy product joined the Cottagers in the summer of 2020 and has featured in 107 games in all competitions, registering three goals and two assists.
