Club president rules out Man Utd and Chelsea from signing Super Eagles striker
Published: July 11, 2023Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has ruled out English Premier League giants Manchester United and Chelsea from signing Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window.
This stems from his statement in an interview where he named PSG as the only club that can afford the Nigerian forward.
Manchester United need to sign a proven striker this summer to solve their goalscoring woes as they had to rely heavily on Marcus Rashford for goals last season.
Recent reports had indicated that the Red Devils would not be able to sign Osimhen and had turned their attention to Denmark International Rasmus Højlund.
Chelsea on the other hand have also been linked with the 24-year-old having struggled for goals last season but will not be able to continue their pursuit of the forward due to their financial incapacity.
De Laurentiis while speaking in the interview mentioned PSG as the only club that could afford his club's most prized asset and also hinted on how much he could be sold.
'"The only club that could afford Victor Osimhen is Paris Saint-Germain, " he told Mediaset, via Daily Mail.
'If Nasser Al Khelaifi [PSG president] wants to send in a bid around £170m, we wait and we see what happens. I personally think that Victor will stay here."
The French Ligue 1 champions could lose Kylian Mbappe this summer to Real Madrid and have identified the former Lille forward as the ideal replacement for the French superstar.
