Confirmed: Super Eagles-eligible striker signs new deal with PL new boys Luton Town
Published: July 16, 2023
With a statement on their official website, Luton Town have confirmed that Super Eagles-eligible forward Elijah Adebayo has signed a new deal with the club though the duration of the contract was not disclosed.
Adebayo has signed a contract extension with the Hatters following their promotion to the Premier League
The 25-year-old played a vital role for Luton Town as they secured promotion to the English top-flight via the playoffs.
Adebayo scored the Hatters' only goal in their 2-1 loss to Sunderland in the first leg of the semifinals of Championship playoffs and assisted their only goal against Coventry City in the final.
He notched 10 goals and 4 assists in 49 appearances for Rob Edwards' side last season.
The lanky Anglo-Nigerian striker could not hide his joy upon penning a new deal with the English Premier League side.
"It's wonderful to sign any contract but especially here because since I've come in I've enjoyed my time here," Adebayo told the club's official website.
"There's a unique set of lads in the changing room that – along with the people around the club and the fans – makes it a no-brainer.
"Since I joined it's been a whirlwind. When I first signed I remember saying I was here for the ride, the rollercoaster, and to just enjoy it – it's been that and then some.
"The last couple of months have been fantastic and those are the moments why we want to be in the job."
Adebayo is the eighth player to sign fresh terms at Luton Town following their promotion to the Premier League, after Luke Berry, Amari’i Bell, Carlton Morris, Cauley Woodrow, Reece Burke, Tom Lockyer and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu.
The London native joined the Championship playoffs winners in January 2021 after stints at Fulham, Slough Town, Bognor Regis Town, Cheltenham Town, Swindon Town, Stevenage and Walsall.
