Barcelona have signed England youth international of Nigerian descent Tudor Mendel-Idowu from Chelsea.
Mendel-Idowu's grandfather on his mother's side, John Adeleye-Abai played international football for the Super Eagles.
Spanish journalist Albert Roge and Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed on Tuesday morning that Mendel-Idowu is joining Barcelona's youth team.
The talented winger has signed a three-year deal with Barcelona, keeping him at the Spanish giants until June 2026.
The 18-year-old will initially start his Barcelona career with Barcelona Atlètic who compete in the Primera Federación or the third tier of Spanish football, and will also continue his education at the club.
Mendel-Idowu first trained with Chelsea at U8 level before signing schoolboy forms as an U9.
He grew through the ranks to play for the Blues U18s, featuring in the side's run to the FA Youth Cup semifinal in the 2021/2022 season and scored 6 goals in 12 games in the U18 Premier League last term.
Due to his performances with the U18s, he made his debut for the development side last season when he made a cameo appearance in their 4-2 win over Peterborough in the Papa Johns Trophy.
Mendel-Idowu was offered a new deal by Chelsea but has opted to continue his career at Barcelona.
