Destiny: Super Eagles-eligible LB scores on his friendly debut for Tottenham Hotspur
Published: July 18, 2023
Super Eagles-eligible left-back Destiny Udogie wasted no time to impress Tottenham's new manager Ange Postecoglou on his debut as he scored a goal in Spurs' 3-2 loss to West Ham United in a pre-season game played at the Optus Stadium on Tuesday.
Danny Ings and Divin Mubama gave West Ham a two-goal lead in the first half before Giovani Lo Celso kickstarted Tottenham's resurgence in the 68th minute when he slammed a low shot into the Hammers' net.
Three minutes later, Udogie will get into the act to restore parity for his side when he flicked a header past the goalkeeper.
The effort of the young defender will prove futile as Italian forward Gianluca Scamacca would go on to score the Hammers third and winning goal.
The 20-year-old Udogie was among the host of substitutes brought on by Postecoglou at the start of the second half.
After his impressive spell with Udinese in the Italian Serie A last season, Udogie will be hoping he can make enough impression during the pre-season so as to nail a place in the starting XI next season
Tottenham will be facing another English opposition in Leicester City in their next pre-season game before squaring up against Lion City, Shakhtar Donetsk and Barcelona.
