Former Gunner Kelechi Nwakali undergoes medical ahead of Chaves unveiling
Published: July 19, 2023
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that former Arsenal midfielder Kelechi Nwakali has embarked on a new chapter in his career by agreeing a move to Portuguese Primeira Liga outfit Grupo Desportivo de Chaves.
Allnigeriasoccer.com broke the news five days ago that Czech and Danish clubs were keen on Nwakali but lagging behind Chaves in the race for the services of the 25-year-old.
Chaves are on the verge of confirming the capture of the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner following a medical examination that took place in Portugal.
Although Nwakali wanted a two-year contract, it is understood that he has accepted the offer of a three-year deal.
Chaves are tying up the loose ends of the contract and an official confirmation of the midfielder's transfer is expected to come as from Thursday, July 20.
The Super Eagles star is making a return to Portuguese football, having previously worn the colours of Porto B during the 2018-2019 season.
Nwakali was a key player for Ponferradina but had to leave the club a year before the expiration of his contract following their relegation to the third tier of Spanish football at the end of the 2022-2023 campaign.
He reunites with former Ponferradina coach José Gomes at Chaves.
