Chukwueze chooses AC Milan shirt number previously worn by 2006 WC final MOTM
Published: July 26, 2023Seven-time European champions AC Milan are on the verge of announcing the signing of Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze.
According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, Chukwueze arrived in Italy this morning to undergo a medical, he chatted with fans and signed autographs after completing the examination at La Madonnina Clinic.
Villarreal have agreed to sell the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner to the Rossoneri for a fee of 20 million euros plus eight million in bonuses.
He will put pen to paper on a five-year contract and will earn four million euros in wages every season at AC Milan.
The Italian transfer market website has confirmed that Chukwueze has chosen to wear the number 21 shirt.
The number 21 is considered an iconic shirt at AC Milan as it was previously worn by club legend Andrea Pirlo, who was named the official Man of the Match as Italy beat France on penalties to win the 2006 World Cup final.
Pirlo spent a decade at AC Milan during which he won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, Fifa Club World Cup, Serie A and Coppa Italia.
Other players who have donned Milan's number 21 shirt in the past are Sergiño Dest, Brahim Díaz, Zlatan Ibrahimović, Marco van Ginkel, Kévin Constant, Maxi López and Mauro Tassotti.
Chukwueze made his professional debut with the number 30 at the back of his Villarreal jersey and for the past four years, he wore the number 11 kit.
