New details emerge on Barcelona's pursuit of Arsenal midfielder of Nigerian descent
Published: July 30, 2023
Barcelona's move for Arsenal midfielder of Nigeria descent could be off.
In a bid to strengthen the midfield of their subsidiary side, Barça Atlètic, the Spanish side were already considering getting Azeez on a free transfer despite having a year left on his contract but with Arsenal having a percentage from future sales.
However, a report emanating from Spanish sports daily, Sport states that due to the financial situation of the Spanish giants, a move for the Hale End product now looks unlikely.
The Catalonia-based club are now exploring a move for Ecuadorian midfielder Óscar Zambrano as requested by Barça Atlètic coach, Rafa Márquez as they still desire to strengthen the midfield
Azeez spent last season on loan with Spanish side UD Ibiza and English Football League One club Wigan Athletic to get more first-team experience under his belt.
He made 11 appearances for UD Ibiza before being recalled in January to join Wigan.
However, the move to the English outfit was unsuccessful as he made just two appearances in his short spell at the club.
The 20-year-old Azeez has played nonstop at Arsenal since the age of five, rising through the youth team ranks to make his professional debut in a Europa League clash with Dundalk in December 2020.
