'I won't lie' - Lawal says Celtic legend was a major factor in him joining Fleetwood Town on loan
Published: August 18, 2023
Versatile central defender of Nigerian descent, Bosun Lawal has admitted that Fleetwood Town boss Scott Brown was a major factor in him moving to the Fishermen on loan for the remainder of the season.
Lawal signed a contract extension with the Hoops until the summer of 2026 before heading to Fleetwood Town, where he will continue his development and aim to play first-team football on a regular basis.
The Republic of Ireland U21 international has been on the periphery of Celtic's first team, making his senior debut last season and was part of the tour squad to Portugal and Japan.
Brown is a legendary figure at Celtic, winning 22 domestic honours including 10 league titles during his 14-year association with the club, and also captained Scotland at international level, earning 55 caps before hanging up his boots.
Lawal was courted by a plethora of clubs in the English Football League, and he has explained why he opted for Fleetwood Town.
Speaking to the official website of Fleetwood Town, he stated: "Back in Glasgow, Scott Brown is a huge name, and I won’t lie in saying that he was a major factor in me coming down to Fleetwood on loan for the season.
"It was a tough decision, but I feel this is the right place for me to develop as a footballer.
“I think this is the right time for me to step up and play men’s football week in week out and show my potential to those at Celtic and here at Fleetwood."
Former Watford schoolboy Lawal could potentially make his Fleetwood Town debut on Saturday afternoon when they take on Derby County in the League One.
