'Have big price tags on their heads' - Miller urges Dessers and Rangers teammate to shape up
Published: August 20, 2023
Former Scotland International Kenny Miller has advised Cyriel Dessers and his Brazilian teammate Danilo on how to turn the corner after their tough start to life as Rangers' players.
Dessers has failed to hit the ground running since his arrival at Ibrox Stadium from Cremonese last month.
The 28-year-old performances have not escaped criticism from pundits and Rangers' fans who were heard booing him in the club's last league game against Livingston.
The Super Eagles forward has not been the only summer recruit that is being criticized as Danilo who also joined the Light Blues this summer has not been spared.
The Brazilian has particularly been criticized for his performance against Servette in the second leg of the third qualifying round of the Champions League last week where he missed an open-goal opportunity.
Miller who also played for the 55-time Scottish champions during his playing days has advised the new Rangers forwards to keep working their socks off to impress the highly-expectant fans.
"You have to realise quickly what you're representing and what's expected of you. The fans will forgive a missed chance or a mistake if you're putting your body on the line and giving your all for the shirt. That has to be the bare minimum," Miller wrote in his column for Daily Record
"The likes of Dessers and Danilo have big price tags on their heads. And after Celtic won a treble last year, Rangers supporters expect a response. At the moment, that response has been quite tame.
"They have to stick their chest out now and say: 'I'm not hiding'. They must put themselves out there to fail. That's either in people or it's not. "
Dessers has recorded 2 goals and one assist so far for the Scottish outfit while Danilo has just one goal in 5 appearances across all competitions.
