Done deal: Attacking all-rounder Nathan Tella departs Southampton for Bayer Leverkusen
Published: August 27, 2023
Through their office website, Southampton have announced the departure of Super Eagles-eligible player, Nathan Tella to Bayern Leverkusen.
Tella is an attacking all-rounder who is capable of playing up front and on both flanks as well as an attacking midfielder.
The Championship side reached an agreement with their Bundesliga counterparts on Friday for the signing of the Hale End Academy product.
The English-born forward leaves Southampton six years after he arrived from Arsenal as a 17-year-old.
He made his debut against Norwich City and went on to make 44 appearances across all competitions for the Saints registering three goals and 6 assists.
The former Arsenal youth teamer had a fantastic season in the Championship last season with Burnley and played a significant role in the Clarets' return to the Premier League which attracted the interest of Bayern Leverkusen.
He has also hit the ground running this season by registering 2 goal contributions in 3 games and Xabi Alonso will be hoping he can continue his good run of form in Germany.
Tella becomes the second Nigerian attack-minded player acquired by Bayer Leverkusen this summer, after Victor Boniface.
The 24-year-old, who is leaving England for the first time in his career, will wear the number 19 shirt for the Werkself.
