Official: David signs new deal at Hamburg before loan move to Hansa Rostock
Published: August 29, 2023With a statement on their official website, German 2. Bundesliga club Hamburg have announced that former Germany U20 international of Nigerian descent, Jonas David has signed a new contract.
The 23-year-old committed his future to Hamburg until June 30, 2025 before he was farmed out on loan to 2.Bundesliga rivals Hansa Rostock for the remainder of the 2023-2024 season.
David's former contract would have expired at the end of this season if he had not extended his stay at die Rothosen.
He played for the youth teams of Meiendorfer SV (2005-2013) and Eintracht Norderstedt (2013-2014) before joining Hamburg in 2014.
The centre-back was promoted to Hamburg's first team squad in the 2018-2019 season and has made a total of 59 competitive appearances, scoring two goals.
Now in his tenth year at Hamburg, David has decided to join Hansa Rostock on a temporary basis in search of more regular game-time.
This is his second loan spell away from Hamburg having spent the second part of the 2019-2020 campaign at Würzburger Kickers, where he made five appearances in the 3.Liga.
David could be returning to Hamburg this weekend when Hansa Rostock face his parent club at Volksparkstadion for the fifth matchday of the 2.Bundesliga.
The Hamburg native has been allocated the number 17 jersey at Hansa Rostock.
