Official: Southampton loan out Super Eagles striker to Trabzonspor
Published: September 11, 2023With a statement on their official website, Southampton have confirmed the temporary departure of Paul Onuachu.
The Championship club have announced that the Super Eagles striker has joined Turkish outfit Trabzonspor on loan for the remainder of the season.
Onuachu has struggled since joining Southampton in the January transfer window.
He made 11 appearances for the Saints before their relegation from the Premier League last season and couldn't register a goal.
The 29-year-old has only featured in one game so far for Southampton since the start of the season which is an indication that he was surplus to requirements.
He was given the opportunity to rejoin his former side KRC Genk in a swap deal with Joseph Painstil before the closure of the transfer window in England but rejected the move.
Onuachu becomes Trabzonspor's latest acquisition from an English club, after former Arsenal winger Nicolas Pépé.
The FC Ebedei product will be hoping to get his carer back on track with the Turkish Süper Lig side and get back into contention for a place in the Super Eagles ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November and the Africa Cup of Nations next year.
