Super Eagles central defender left out of Rangers Europa League squad

Through their official website, Rangers have announced their 22-man List A squad for the UEFA Europa League group stage.

The name of Super Eagles centre-back Leon Balogun is missing from the list with Rangers manager Micheal Beale choosing to select James Tavernier, Connor Goldson, John Souttar, Borna Barisic, Dujon Sterling and  Ben Davies as his defenders for the early stage of the competition.

However, the 35-year-old can be enlisted in the squad after the completion of the group stage and before the round of 16.

Balogun rejoined the Light Blues last summer for free from Queens Park Rangers and has only made 2 appearances since the start of the campaign.

While the veteran defender missed out, his compatriot, Cyriel Dessers was included in the list.

Having failed to beat PSV Eindhoven in the playoff round of the UEFA Champions League group stage, Rangers will now have to contend with playing in the Europa League.

The Scottish Premiership side have been grouped alongside Real Betis, Sparta Prague and Aris Limassol.

They will kickstart their campaign with a home game against Real Betis on September 21.
