Tottenham's plans post-Harry Kane: Fabrizio Romano reveals most likely outcome of Osimhen situation
Published: October 02, 2023
Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has predicted that Victor Osimhen will probably leave Napoli at the end of the 2023-2024 season if he does not agree a new deal within the next three months.
The Italian Serie A champions and Osimhen recently put up statements that they have settled their differences in the wake of the TikTok saga in which the Nigeria international was mocked for missing a penalty.
European powerhouses such as Manchester United, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and PSG were all linked with Osimhen in the summer transfer window but were priced out of a deal, while Napoli refused to do business with Al Hilal who expressed the most concrete interest in signing the Super Eagles star.
Tottenham Hotspur were interested in Osimhen before his transfer to Napoli but he was not eager to move at the time as he didn't want to play second fiddle to club legend Harry Kane.
Now, the England skipper has moved on to pastures new, joining Bayern Munich in August for a fee of 100 million euros after nineteen years of service to Tottenham.
Tottenham decided to sell Kane to a foreign team after the powers that be at the north London club failed to convince him to sign a new deal.
Tottenham and manager Ange Postecoglou decided to go with a different strategy as they could not sign a proper number 9 to replace Kane in the summer transfer window, bringing in a different kind of player, Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.
According to Romano, the Lilywhites will wait until next summer to see if there's an opportunity to sign a proven goalscorer.
Commenting on the possibility of s striker coming in to replace Kane, Romano provided an update on Victor Osimhen's situation.
He said on the Daily Briefing: "Victor Osimhen received some approaches last summer especially from Saudi Arabia with very important possibilities including a chance with Al Hilal before they signed Aleksandar Mitrović, Neymar.
"When they were still looking for offensive players Osimhen was on their list but for Napoli it was a very clear no when they started negotiating with Al Hilal despite Al Hilal prepared to pay more than 140m, 150m euros to Napoli. They didn't accept the proposal.
"Victor Osimhen probably wanted a different kind of situation on the market last summer or different kind of contract At the moment the agreement to extend the contract is not in place and his contract is expiring in June 2025.
"It's kind of a dangerous situation for Napoli, the feeling is that they have to reach an agreement on a new contract in the next two, three months otherwise for Osimhen it's going to be time to leave the club in 2024, and that's the most likely outcome of this story - Victor Osimhen probably leaving next year."
Tottenham have done well without Harry Kane as they are one of the two unbeaten teams in the Premier League after playing against Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool in their opening seven matches.
