Alex Iwobi v Fisayo Dele-Bashiru: Who has been the better midfielder this season?

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has been invited to the Super Eagles team ahead of their friendly games against Saudi Arabia and Mozambique.

The 22-year-old is in the form of his life at the moment, scoring four goals and registering three assists in eight Süper Lig games for Hatayspor and that blistering form has earned him a call-up from José Peseiro.

In this article, we will be taking a look at what the Manchester City Academy product will bring to the Super Eagles by drawing a comparison between him and Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi, who has a similar profile or style of play using statistics from their performances this season.

With 7-goal contributions already, Dele-Bashiru pips Iwobi who has just one, for goal involvement per game so far this term.

The Super Eagles' new invitee also edges his senior counterpart for pass completion rate having completed 83.7% of his passes for Hatayspor as compared to Iwobi who has completed 80.2% of his passes in the colours of Fulham.

However, both players are averaging one key pass per game, that is, a pass leading to a shot.

Concerning possession metric, the former Everton midfielder is a better controller of the ball as he has recorded the least number of bad touches so far.

The foregoing is not to say Dele-Bashiru is a better midfielder than Iwobi in practice but to elucidate the quality of the former as we look forward to seeing him make his debut for Nigeria.
