'Made a brilliant save' - Pundit hails Arsenal loanee Okonkwo for role he played in Wrexham's win v Salford
Published: October 15, 2023
Wrexham FC reporter for the Wrexham Leader newspaper, Richard Williams has praised Arsenal-owned goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo for the role he played in Wrexham's come-from-behind 3-2 victory against Salford City in a League Two encounter staged at the STōK Cae Ras on Saturday evening.
Having been rested for the 3-0 win over Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday, Okonkwo returned to the starting lineup for the visit of the Ammies, his fourth consecutive start for the Red Dragons in the fourth tier of English football.
Salford must have thought they were home and dry after establishing a two-goal lead inside the opening 36 minutes courtesy of a brace from Matt Smith but Wrexham fought back to equalize before Jordan Davies' goal in the 89th minute secured all three points.
In the third minute of stoppage time, Okonkwo produced a fantastic save to deny Smith from grabbing the equalizer, stopping his header on the line.
Williams awarded the English-Nigerian goalkeeper 6 out of 10 in his player ratings for the Leader and praised him for his save which ensured Wrexham took all three points.
"Made a brilliant save in stoppage time to ensure Wrexham secured three points," Williams wrote.
Okonkwo has kept three clean sheets in five appearances for Wrexham while conceding five goals.
