Arsenal suffer blow in pursuit of Kayode as Italian-Nigerian RB agrees new deal with Fiorentina
Published: October 17, 2023
Arsenal have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Michael Kayode with the Italy youth teamer of Nigerian descent reportedly agreeing a new contract with Serie A club Fiorentina.
It was claimed that the Gunners had been scouting the talented right-back with a view to making a move for his services as from the January transfer window.
However, Fiorentina are set to fend off interest from Arsenal and other interested clubs by announcing a new deal for Kayode.
Transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Kayode has agreed to sign a new deal with the two-time Serie A champions valid until the end of the 2027-2028 season.
Fiorentina will confirm the agreement that has been reached with the Italian-Nigerian defender in the coming days.
Kayode has seen his stock rise after some impressive displays for Italy at the 2023 European U19 Championship, where he scored the game-winning goal in the showpiece against Portugal and was deployed in multiple positions.
The 19-year-old has broken into Fiorentina's first team, making seven appearances across all competitions this term, and earned his first call-up to Italy's U21 national team in September.
Kayode joined Fiorentina in the summer of 2021 after spells with the youth teams of Juventus and Gozzano.
