'Right close to the end of the window' - Arsenal GK Okonkwo reveals how his move to Wrexham came about

Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo has confirmed that he agreed a loan move to Football League club Wrexham at the tail end of the summer transfer window.
The Hale End Academy graduate switched to Wrexham on a temporary basis in search of regular game time, something that manager Mikel Arteta could not offer him, with summer signing from Brentford, David Raya and England international Aaron Ramsdale ahead of him in the pecking order of goalkeepers at the Emirates Stadium.
This is Okonkwo's third temporary move away from the English capital, having spent the first half of last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra and finished the 2022-2023 campaign at Sturm Graz, whom he helped to win the Austrian Cup.
The Arsenal-owned goalkeeper has caught the eye since his deadline day move to the Red Dragons, keeping three clean sheets in five appearances.
A number of European and other Football League clubs had been monitoring the situation of Okonkwo but did not firm up their interest by making an official bid to the Gunners.
When asked how his move to Wrexham came about, Okonkwo told Yours Mine Away Podcast: "I got a call from my agents, right close to the end of the window actually and they told me that this was a possibility, have a move to Wrexham.
"As soon as it came through I was a bit hesitant, I was like that's interesting. Obviously I knew the history of the club. I hadn't watched the documentary but I knew about everything being in the football world, the new owners and other players talk about Wrexham, big club now.
"As soon as it came, this is a great club and it would be good to have a move there."
Okonkwo joined Arsenal as a schoolboy and has entered the last eight months of his contract with the north London club.
