Napoli president cites Koulibaly's transfer to Chelsea as he provides update on future of Osimhen
Published: October 19, 2023
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has hinted that he could sell Chelsea and Manchester-linked striker Victor Osimhen next summer.
Despite attempts to extend his current contract, there has been no breakthrough yet as both parties are yet to agree on key details, particularly Osimhen's new salary and release clause.
While Osimhen has come out to declare his commitment to Napoli, the relationship between him and the Italian club might not be at its best following the TikTok incident.
The 24-year-old existing contract expires in 2025 and the Parthenopeans risk losing him for a very low fee or free if he doesn't extend his contract, thus the possibility of selling him next summer.
De Laurentiis in a recent interview revealed that Napoli agreed on a verbal deal with the Nigerian striker in August and while there is still time to extend his contract, he hinted that Osimhen could be sold next summer.
In quotes relayed by transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, the Napoli chief said: "We verbally agreed on new deal in August, then if things change on his side... life goes on.
"Victor's contract expires in June 2025, there's always time. Remember... I sold Koulibaly to Chelsea one year before end of his deal".
Napoli will have to do without the services of their star striker for the coming weeks having sustained an injury while on international duty with Nigeria.
