Romano reveals Chelsea are monitoring situation of Osimhen, almost impossible to sign him in January
Published: October 21, 2023
Aurelio De Laurentiis recently spoke about the contract situation of Victor Osimhen, stating that the Super Eagles striker verbally agreed to extend his contract, then he decided to take some time and changed his mind.
Napoli, through their official website, clarified the position of the president, saying that it was not a negative comment and Osimhen decided to take some time with the hope of a positive outcome.
According to Fabrizio Romano via his YouTube page, Napoli presented a very important contract proposal to Victor Osimhen - the biggest salary in the history of Napoli to convince the Nigeria national teamer to extend his contract, with his current deal expiring in the summer of 2025.
The Italian transfer market expert revealed that in reality the contract extension of Osimhen with Napoli is far from being done as there is no agreement and nothing is progressing.
He added that it is almost impossible to sign Osimhen in January as the striker is expected to represent the Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and Napoli are fighting for silverware.
Napoli will not entertain bids from clubs interested in the services of the number 9 in the January transfer window but it will be different in the summer.
Chelsea are one of the clubs monitoring the situation of Osimhen to see whether he's going to extend his contract or not, which is normal as the Blues have been in the market for a proven goalscorer for long.
Ivan Toney and Osimhen are among the strikers playing in Europe being considered for the number 9 role for the 2024-2025 season.
At the moment, Chelsea are not negotiating with Napoli for Osimhen and have not firmed up their interest by making a bid to the Serie A champions.
