Super Eagles-eligible winger subbed in as Arsenal hold Chelsea in a game of goalkeeping howlers
Published: October 21, 2023
Super Eagles eligible winger Noni Madueke featured for Chelsea as they lost a two-goal lead to play out a 2-2 draw with Arsenal on matchday 9 of the Premier League played at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.
Cole Palmer gave the hosts the lead in the 15th minute from the penalty spot after William Saliba was adjudged to have committed a handball.
In a moment for David Raya to forget, Mykhailo Mudryk doubled Chelsea's advantage three minutes after the start of the second half with a superb lob after spotting the Arsenal goalkeeper off his line.
In the 77th minute, the game took a dramatic turn as Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez played an inaccurate pass which was intercepted by Declan Rice who made no mistake in finding the back of the net to reduce Arsenal's deficit.
Substitute Leandro Trossard restored parity for the visitors six minutes before the stoppage time with a precise finish from Bukayo Saka's cross.
With six minutes left on the clock, Maduke came on for Raheem Sterling which was just seconds before Arsenal's leveler.
Apart from winning a foul off Ben White, the Anglo-Nigerian forward had no impact on the game as he made just seven touches and had no shot on goal.
French-Nigerian midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu didn't feature in the encounter as he sat on the bench for the entire duration of the game, while Carney Chuwkuemeka is undergoing rehabilitation after suffering a relapse to his injury.
