'It’s tiredness' - Leicester City manager reveals why Ndidi was omitted from matchday squad
Published: October 24, 2023
Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has explained the reason behind Wilfred Ndidi's absence in his side's triumph over Sunderland in an English Championship fixture played at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday night.
The only goal of the game was scored by James Justin with a header from the corner kick in the 12th minute of the encounter.
The victory earned the Foxes a place in the history books as the third side to win 12 of its first 13 games in the English second-tier.
Ndidi's absence was surprising as he has been one of the standout players for the Foxes this season, appearing in all Championship games before tonight's encounter.
While giving his thoughts after the game, Maresca gave the reason behind the Super Eagles midfielder's omission from the matchday squad.
In quotes relayed by LeicestershireLive, the Italian tactician said: "With Wilf, it's tiredness, something a little bit more than tiredness, so he needs some days, and we don't want to take risks for them. Wilf could play (on Saturday), we'll see."
It has been a blistering start to the campaign for Ndidi who is playing a more attacking role under Maresca, registering four goal involvements in 12 league games.
